Bloomberg Announces First Speakers for Inaugural New Economy Gateway Europe in Ireland, April 19-20, 2023

DUBLIN & New York, March 27, 2023 – Bloomberg Media announced today the first set of distinguished speakers for the inaugural Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Europe conference, convening outside of Dublin on the 19th and 20th of April.

Held in partnership with IDA Ireland, a world leader in investment promotion and development, and Enterprise Ireland, who helps innovative Irish businesses go global, the Gateway event will bring together policy makers, business leaders and preeminent thinkers under the guiding theme of “Reglobalization.”

The event will explore topics critical to the growth and prosperity of Europe. This includes the near-shoring of supply chains, access to energy supplies, the build-out of semiconductor capacity, safeguarding the innovation pipeline, regulatory authority and continental security.

Among those confirmed to speak are Pablo Hernández de Cos, governor of the Bank of Spain and board member of the European Central Bank; Lila Ibrahim, chief operating officer of DeepMind; Michael O’Leary, chief executive officer of Ryanair Holdings; Andrea Orcel, group chief executive officer and head of Italy at UniCredit SpA; and Jozef Síkela, Minister of Industry and Trade, Czech Republic.

Sessions on the Gateway Ireland program include Europe’s Role in a Divided World, The Green Energy Gold Rush and The Brussels Effect. The full event programme can be found here.

“Ireland’s strong recent growth and attractiveness to foreign investors make it a perfect host for Bloomberg’s first ever New Economy event in Europe,” Michael Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies, said. “By bringing together a diverse group of leaders with big ideas in Dublin, the event seeks to address challenging issues that neither businesses nor governments can tackle alone.”

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said: “Ireland is one of the most globalised economies in the world, so it’s appropriate that Bloomberg has chosen Dublin to host its inaugural European New Economy Gateway Conference on Reglobalisation. Ireland’s openness to trade, investment, people and ideas has helped to transform our economy and society, creating a stable environment for investors and fostering high-value jobs across the country.

“This conference on Reglobalisation is very timely. We cannot afford to take globalisation and trade for granted in a world that is changing before our eyes. The international environment is increasingly challenging due to Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, the growth of economic nationalism and protectionism, Brexit, and the aftermath of the pandemic. By partnering with IDA Ireland, Bloomberg is giving global leaders an opportunity to discuss how we reassert the world of multilateralism, global structures and the rules-based order.”

In addition to Hernández de Cos, Ibrahim, O’Leary and Orcel, Bloomberg New Economy is delighted to announce the following speakers, all of whom are recognized leaders in their fields:

  • Kristine Braden, Head of Europe, Citigroup, and Chief Executive Officer, Citibank Europe Plc
  • Helen Dixon, Commissioner for Data Protection, Republic of Ireland
  • Marjut Falkstedt, Chief Executive, European Investment Fund
  • David Foley, Senior Managing Director and Global Head, Blackstone Energy Partners
  • Peggy Johnson, Chief Executive Officer, Magic Leap
  • Marcel Kasumovich, Head of Research, One River Asset Management and Deputy Chief Investment Officer, One River Digital
  • Val Miftakhov, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, ZeroAvia
  • Shannon O’Neil, Vice President and Senior Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations

  • Kurt Sievers, President and Chief Executive Officer, NXP Semiconductors
  • Jozef Síkela, Minister of Industry and Trade, Czech Republic
  • Willie Walsh, Director General, International Air Transport Association

Ireland has established itself as a hub of educated, highly-skilled, English-speaking talent and a magnet for multinationals wanting more geographic diversity in high-value manufacturing as well as proximity to continental Europe.

The Gateway event will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement taking place in Belfast.

Delegates at the invitation-only Gateway Europe will also have access to breakout discussions on topics ranging from AI, trade and cybersecurity as well as a networking platform to ensure high-level interactions and opportunities to share observations and learnings from the conference.
First launched in Panama in May 2022, the Gateway series builds on the flagship Bloomberg New Economy Forum, held annually in November, and draws on insights developed in Bloomberg New Economy’s five editorial pillars: Finance, Commerce, Sustainability, Resilience, Security.
