Bloomberg New Voices Launches Initiative in Zurich

Bloomberg announced the expansion of its New Voices initiative to Zurich in an event and networking reception held at the WOW Museum on Thursday. Zurich now becomes the twelfth New Voices city, joining Mumbai, Sydney, Johannesburg, New York, San Francisco, London, and Dubai.

The New Voices initiative, which started in 2018, sponsors one-on-one media training for women and other under-represented experts and executives in finance and business around the globe. The training prepares executives for interviews on Bloomberg TV and other outlets, with the goal of improving the representation of women experts’ and opinions in the media industry.

Speaking at the event, Laura Zelenko, Bloomberg News Senior Executive Editor for Diversity, Talent, Standards and Training, said: “We as the financial media have a responsibility to do better, to help amplify the important and knowledgeable voices that remain in the background, to reach deeper into the diversity that does exist in the industry and to identify the experts, fund managers, economists, senior leaders who aren’t getting the exposure they deserve.”

As of the end of last year, the initiative has tripled the percentage of on-air female guests on Bloomberg TV to 30%. Since the initiative began, it has provided media training to more than 370 executives around the world and created a global database of female sources that now totals more than 7,600.

Claudia Maedler, Bloomberg Swiss Bureau Chief, speaking at the event said, “Having seen the success of New Voices around the world, I am very excited it’s coming to Switzerland. I am looking forward to meeting the women interested in taking part in this program and helping to increase diversity across our platforms.”

Claudia Maedler, Bloomberg Swiss Bureau Chief, in conversation with New Voices Alumni Etsy Dwek, Chief Investment Officer at FlowBank, and Claudia Panseri, Co-Head of the Cross-Asset Team and Head of Equity Strategies at UBS.
