September 13, 2023 – Bloomberg Media has launched the fifth wave of its Foreign Direct Investor (FDI) Outlook: Navigating evolving dynamics for cross-border investments. The new research was created by the Bloomberg Industry Accelerator, Bloomberg Media’s leading system dedicated to developing proprietary sector and audience related analyses and thought leadership, and illustrates emerging trends among investors around the world.
Highlights of the study’s global insights include:
- Globally, 52% of investors are optimistic about the global economy, a slight decline from 2022 (56%), but still significantly higher than in 2019.
- In 2023 the most popular regions for FDI will remain in similar positions as in 2022. Europe is still the most popular destination with 66% of FDIs investing in this region, followed by North America (51%) and Asia Pacific (44%).
- In 2023 the negative impact of the lingering Covid-19 pandemic on businesses globally has decreased by 5%, compared to 2022 – from 61% to 56%.
- ESG priorities are not the same for FDIs based in the different regions. For those in North America and Europe, climate change ranks as the highest priority in the region with 38% and 33% respectively. In Asia, environmental opportunities are first with 42%, while FDIs in Latin America focus most on pollution and waste (49%).
- FDIs see digital transformation and other technological developments as key opportunities for their businesses in the next 1 to 3 years, with accelerated digital transformation (34%), rapid rise of ecommerce (31%) and digital economy agreements (30%) chosen by about a third of respondents.
