Bloomberg Media Appoints New US Head of Sales

Andrew Benett, Chief Commercial Officer of Bloomberg Media, sent the following memo to Bloomberg Media employees:

Team,

Over the past six weeks, my sole focus has been working every day directly with all of you. I’ve sought to understand our biggest opportunities, and to identify and remove pain points. As I’ve said before, I believe our organization is poised to deliver another year of breakout success. And while we have been very strong in parts of our business, there is still room to grow.

To that end, I’m thrilled to share some very exciting news. Effective May 20th, Anthony DeMaio will join us as US Head of Sales, based in New York. In his new role, the US-based practice leads will report into Anthony as he works with us to drive the transformation of the Media group. His joining Bloomberg is a really big win for us, and I’m confident that you will all feel the same.

Let me share with you a little bit about Anthony.

Anthony comes to Bloomberg LP from the venerable Washington Post where he has served as the Vice President of Global Sales since August 2015.

During Anthony’s time there, The Post’s Global team doubled its digital revenue. He has consistently grown print advertising revenue while also building an events business. He developed a sales team that has become one of the industry’s best. Additionally, Anthony created and implemented an international strategy that included opening up offices in both London and Singapore. Prior to The Post, he served as Publisher of Slate, the online magazine. At Slate, Anthony built and managed a talented sales team that helped the company reach profitability for the first time in its history. He has been an IAB and DCN presenter on revenue models, and has brought that spirit of innovation to every role throughout his career.

In short, Anthony is an accomplished multi-platform and digital media sales and marketing executive with a proven track record of leadership and revenue growth in pure-play and multimedia environments. He is respected by clients and his teams alike. It’s not easy to find someone who has continuously delivered for 20+ years, yet also takes great joy in building and managing strong teams. Anthony is a true team player who puts himself in the trenches and works his way to success. Day by day. Client by client. I know he’ll achieve the same within Bloomberg.

On the personal front, Anthony earned a B.A. in Political Science and an M.S. in Mass Communications and Public Relations from Boston University, where he was also a proud member of the University’s Division I Wrestling Team. Anthony resides in Westchester County with his wife and two sons. In his free time, Anthony trains for and competes in endurance events. To date he has completed three Ironman competitions and 37 marathons. His next big race is the Vermont 100 Ultra Marathon this July. I will not be training with him.

This move completes our sales leadership team. Anthony will run our largest region, based out of the New York office. In addition to serving as CCO, I will permanently assume the responsibilities of Global CRO — a role that I’ve fulfilled on an interim basis — with all regions reporting into me.

Please join me in welcoming Anthony.

Best,

Andrew
