Stephen Colvin joins Bloomberg Media as Head of Bloomberg Live

@Justin_B_Smith sent the following memo to Bloomberg Media employees on January 4, 2017:

To:  Global Media Staff
From: Justin B. Smith
Subject: Welcome Stephen Colvin

Dear Colleagues,

It’s hard to underestimate the power of live events. Arguably one of the oldest forms of media, events represent today one of the fastest-growing segments of the industry. Events are also an essential component of Bloomberg Media’s global multi-platform strategy. Given our global reach and resources, we are well positioned to be the leading convener of business and financial events around the world.

I am thrilled to announce today that Stephen Colvin has joined us this week as our new Head of Bloomberg Live. Stephen will lead the global Bloomberg Live events operation and will be responsible for defining next-generation opportunities that break news and move markets while expanding new monetization strategies. Stephen will be working closely with Jacki Kelley and me on these efforts and he’ll join the existing leadership team of Bloomberg Live GM Stacy Kennedy and Editor Mark Miller.

Stephen and I worked together more than a decade ago at Dennis Publishing, the parent company of The Week magazine. He has had an impressive career leading publishing companies around the world and across different mediums. Most recently, he was CEO of Robb Report Media.

Stephen started his media career in London, which included 8 years at Dennis Publishing where, as Publishing Director, he launched several successful magazine and event businesses. He moved to New York in 1995 to create Dennis Publishing US and during the next 11 years he established a financially successful and trailblazing media company that encompassed magazines, digital media, events and TV. Stephen’s more recent experience includes President of then start-up The Daily Beast and then CEO of The Newsweek-Daily Beast company, as well as EVP, CBS Interactive and Executive-in-Residence of the venture capital firm Lerer Hippeau Ventures.

Stephen’s appointment represents an important step forward for Bloomberg Live in terms of ambition and scale. We’ll have many exciting developments on this front to share with you in the coming months.

Please join me in welcoming Stephen to Bloomberg.

Best,
Justin
