The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay moves to Seattle’s Myrtle Edwards Park on Friday, July 12, with a Family Fun Run to follow on Saturday, June 13. This new addition to the international race series is part of the first-ever Bloomberg Green Festival multi-day experience (July 10-13), assembling the world’s foremost collaborators, activists and innovators to lead a new climate era.
In Friday’s competitive race, each of five runners in a relay team will complete a one-mile route to determine the fastest group time and crown a champion. The race village experience opens at 5 pm PDT, the race begins at 7 pm and the village will close at 10 pm. On Saturday, the Fun Run encourages families to run along the one-mile course together and take part in activities. The schedule begins at 9 am, with rolling starts, and finishes at 1:30 pm. Information and registration for both days can be found here.
The event benefits the Seattle Parks Foundation, advancing its mission to partner with the community to champion thriving and equitable parks and public spaces. The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay series, which has brought together corporations and community business leaders since the first 2007 event in London, leverages the power of sport and physical activity to address social challenges in each race city, with charity projects that deliver lasting positive social impact through The Extra Mile program and three philanthropy pillars: Education, Public Health and Social Justice & Equality.
The Green Festival race will be followed by 2024 races in San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Beijing, Frankfurt, London, Shanghai and Singapore. Others this year have been completed in Dubai, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Sydney and Tokyo.
