Bloomberg’s New Voices Initiative Expands in 2023, Adding Media Training Programs in Paris and Frankfurt

Bloomberg announced the expansion of its New Voices media training initiative to include additional programs in Paris and Frankfurt. In total, Bloomberg’s New Voices will sponsor media training in 2023 for financial executives across eight global cities, including New York, London, Tokyo, and more.

New Voices will also continue to train cohorts of Black and Latinx executives of all gender identities this year in the United States.

Bloomberg established the New Voices initiative in 2018, with the goal of increasing the representation of women and minority executives as sources in the media industry. New Voices sponsors one-on-one media training for women and other under-represented executives in finance and business around the globe, to prepare experts for interviews on Bloomberg TV and other outlets.

Since the initiative began in 2018, the percentage of on-air female guests on Bloomberg TV has more than tripled to 34%. New Voices has provided media training to more than 470 executives around the world and created a global database of female sources that now totals more than 8,400.

“Our coverage is stronger, fairer, and smarter when we include diverse voices that are fully representative of the industries we cover,” said Laura Zelenko, Bloomberg Senior Executive Editor of Standards, Training, Diversity and Talent. “Through this expansion, we can continue the critical work of pushing against the status quo of traditional sourcing, broadening the pool of diverse voices, and will provide our viewers with more accurate and comprehensive coverage as a result.”

2022 Highlights Include:

  • New cohort of 120+ senior women and diverse executives trained in media skills through Bloomberg’s New Voices program in 2022.

  • As of the end of 2022, 34% of external guests on-air were women vs. 10% in 2018.

  • The media training program expanded to 13 cities, with the additions of Tokyo and Zurich.

  • In January 2018, the database had 500 names of female experts in business and finance, and it has since grown to more than 8,400 as of the end of 2022.
