Bloomberg to Host Inaugural Green Festival in Seattle

Four-Day Event to Take Place July 10-13, 2024

January 11, 2023 – Bloomberg Media will host its first-ever Bloomberg Green Festival from July 10-13 in Seattle. The Bloomberg Green Festival, driven by Bloomberg’s global newsroom, will connect business and government leaders, climate innovators and the local Seattle community to discuss and accelerate solutions for climate action. The four-day event will take place across various locations including the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, Seattle Center Grounds and the KEXP Gathering Space

“Seattle is a proven leader when it comes to advancing ambitious climate solutions, making it a natural choice for a festival committed to sustainability and collective climate action. This inaugural gathering of leaders from business, government, and the local Seattle community can help accelerate progress in reducing emissions,” Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies and 108th Mayor of New York City. “Our team at Bloomberg is looking forward to working with the city to stage the festival and support its pioneering efforts to fight climate change.”

As a live event embodiment of Bloomberg Green, a multi-platform news brand dedicated to reporting on the business, science and technology of climate change, the Bloomberg Green Festival will cover topics ranging from innovation and the climate economy, to greener living and the green policy agenda. It will immerse guests in interactive learning, data-driven experiences and connect them with world-renowned experts, providing attendees the inspiration and tools needed to take positive action in their lives. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend talks, screenings, performances, food experiences, activations and gatherings throughout the city.

As the host city Seattle has a legacy of environmental leadership with a focus on building an equitable clean energy economy and investing in healthy, resilient, and well-connected communities. It was also selected as a “role model city” for the United Nations Environment Program’s Generation Restoration initiative to share best practices on improving urban habitat and ecosystems. At the end of last year, the City passed a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from existing large buildings and create hundreds of jobs in the green economy.

“Known as the ‘Emerald City’ for our lush green spaces and stewardship of natural areas, Seattle is thrilled to host the inaugural Bloomberg Green Festival this summer,” said Mayor Harrell. “From wildfire smoke to extreme heat events, our communities are already experiencing the devastating impacts of climate change, and we are committed to meeting the scale of this crisis with urgent, innovative and community-centered action that leaves no neighbor behind. We are excited to partner with Bloomberg Media and bring climate leaders from around the world together to learn from each other and advance our shared vision of a healthy, sustainable, and thriving future for all.”

The Bloomberg Green Festival is presented by Amazon.  Driven by the urgency of climate change, Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge in 2019 and committed to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040. Founded and headquartered in the Seattle area, Amazon is working to power its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025; placed an order for 100,000 electric delivery vehicles, 10,000 of which are already on the road in Seattle and other cities around the U.S.; and the company is using innovative construction techniques and building materials to make its fulfillment centers, data centers, offices, and physical retail locations more sustainable, among other sustainable initiatives.

“As the home to our first headquarters and Climate Pledge Arena—the first certified net-zero carbon arena in the world, we’re honored to play a role in bringing the inaugural Bloomberg Green Festival to Seattle,” said Kara Hurst, Vice President of Worldwide Sustainability at Amazon. “Taking urgent action on addressing the effects of climate change is important to our customers, our employees, our communities, and we’re excited to help bring leading voices together to identify opportunities and solutions to help tackle some of the world’s biggest sustainability challenges.”

Speakers and programming to be announced in early 2024.
