NEW YORK, 28 September, 2022 – Bloomberg Media today announced the initial speakers for the fifth annual  Bloomberg New Economy Forum, which returns to Singapore in-person on November 14-17. Under the guiding theme of, “Lighting a Path Through a Storm” the Forum brings together a remarkably diverse group of political, corporate and multilateral leaders with a singular goal: finding practical solutions to the world’s most pressing problems.

As war rages in Ukraine, dwindling food supplies and skyrocketing costs threaten famine in many of the world’s most vulnerable regions. In the meantime, broken supply chains and labor shortages have ignited inflation across the globe, and a renewed reliance on fossil fuels threatens to put carbon-reduction targets forever out of reach. The Bloomberg New Economy community was created to meet the challenges these multiple crises present with ambitious ideas, capital and action.

“Whether it’s repairing the economic damage of the pandemic, tackling inflation, promoting trade, or finding innovative new ways to fight climate change, there is no shortage of challenges – and opportunities – facing global leaders right now,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies and 108th mayor of New York City. “The spirit of collaboration and optimism lies at the heart of the New Economy Forum, and together with our partners, we look forward to hosting another productive, in-person gathering in Singapore this year.”

Led by Bloomberg New Economy’s Editorial Director, Erik Schatzker, the Forum’s program is built around the five key pillars of the new economy – Finance, Commerce, Sustainability, Resilience and Security – and will serve as the focal point for critical conversations among the more than 500 delegates, including current and former heads of state, global CEOs and public-sector leaders.

“The landscape of this new economy is changing. Increasingly, the emerging markets are the world’s wellspring of creativity, whether it’s agtech and solar-powered microgrids in sub-Saharan Africa, cryptocurrency banking in Venezuela, or plastic-eating robots on the shores of the Persian Gulf,” said Schatzker. “While the immediate future promises to be turbulent and fraught with hardship for many, Bloomberg New Economy hopes to foster a dynamic environment where innovation thrives, growth is sustainable, excesses are contained, outcomes are more equitable, and prosperity is shared.”

Returning for its fifth year, the Forum will take place again in Singapore, a destination that embodies economic resiliency and neutrality, and offers proximity to many of the largest and fastest-growing of the emerging markets.

“Now more than ever, in a world beset with crises, we need bolder public-private collaboration – most of all to spur the innovations and solutions needed to tackle the challenges of the global commons. We look forward to another meaningful New Economy Forum in Singapore this year”, said Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
