Bloomberg News and DCTV Win News & Documentary Emmy Award for ‘Can’t Look Away’ 


New York (May 29, 2026) – Bloomberg News and DCTV won the News and Documentary Emmy in the Outstanding Business and Economic Documentary category for Can’t Look Away: The Case Against Social Media.

Can’t Look Away is a documentary feature film that exposes the real-world consequences of social media algorithms that exploit and endanger vulnerable young users. It is produced and directed by Matthew O’Neill and Perri Peltz, based on reporting by Olivia Carville, and executive produced by Kristin Powers.

The film has also won a National Magazine Award, a duPont-Columbia Award, a Peabody Award nomination, as well as other honors this year.

This marks the third Emmy win for Bloomberg at this week’s awards after Bloomberg Originals series Bloomberg Primer episode, “How New Magnets Could Power the Future,”  won in the category of Outstanding Cold Open or Title Sequence: News, in addition to the Bloomberg Originals series Bloomberg Investigates, “The Zombie Debts Making Wall Street Rich won in the category for Outstanding Business, Consumer or Economic Coverage.

Other nominations for Bloomberg Originals include The Circuit with Emily Chang (Season 5 debuting June 3), Leaders with Francine Lacqua (Season 2 debuting this fall), among others.

Last year’s Emmy wins include The Future with Hannah Fry,  “Quantum Arms Race,” for the  category of Outstanding Science and Technology Coverage and Bloomberg Investigates, “The Dirty Business of Monkey Laundering”  for Outstanding Short Documentary.
